How to Use Vocabulary Book8
Making the Most of This Book
In this book, children practice important concept vocabulary. Children are familiar with common adjective words from the previous books. To expand their vocabulary skill, children will practice concept words formed from adjective words like happy, happiness, kind-kindness, lucky-luck, etc. They also learn that some English nouns meaning concepts do not have a or an in front and ‘s’ or ‘es’ at the end.
Tips for Parents
✅ Review the adjectives your child already knows!
Ask your students to recall common adjectives—happy, clever, creative, peaceful, lovely, friendly, kind, strong, proud, free, honest, and beautiful. Then have them practice forming simple “I’m + adjective” sentences to build fluency and confidence.
✅ Explore each animal and what it means!
The book includes 15 animals, and each one stands for a special idea. Talk with your child about what each animal makes them think of. This helps them learn what a symbol is in a fun and easy way.
✅ Let your child practice English sentences with ‘so’!
Have your child make sentences like:
“A flamingo is lovely, so it is a symbol of love.”
“A pigeon is peaceful, so it is a symbol of peace.”
“A spider is creative, so it is a symbol of creativity.”
This activity helps them learn how to connect describing words (adjectives) to ideas or concept words (nouns) using so.
✅ Let your child make a list of concept words and play the “Speed Game”!
The Word Speed Game is perfect for young children to practice new words. Ask them to write a list of all the concept words and another list of all the describing words, then play the Speed Game as many times as they like. This fun activity helps reinforce vocabulary quickly and confidently.
