How to Use Vocabulary Book4
Making the Most of This Book
In Book 4, children explore 22 of the most common describing words (adjectives), presented as opposite pairs. All illustrations show familiar, everyday situations that children can easily relate to, helping them understand contrasting feelings with clarity. The target pattern, “I’m + adjective + a time expression,” is practiced in simple, real-life contexts. This book builds children’s confidence in using “I’m ~” to express their own feelings naturally.
Tips for Parents
✅ Start by reading the first page and ask your child when they feel that adjective!
For example, the first page says, “I’m sleepy.” Ask your child, “When do you feel sleepy?” Then turn to the next page to see the time expression. Encourage your child to compare their own feelings with the child in the story—this makes learning fun and meaningful.
✅ Help your child express their feelings using a time expression!
Using the structure in the book—“I’m sleepy at night but I’m awake in the morning”—encourage your child to make comparison sentences, such as, “I’m sleepy after dinner, but she’s sleepy at night.” This helps them practice each adjective in a meaningful way while also reinforcing English time expressions through repetition.
✅ Invite your child to create a list of the 22 adjectives and play a fluency game.
The “Speed Game” is always a favorite—children read each word on the list as quickly as possible. Repeated practice builds automaticity, boosts confidence, and reinforces their understanding of the new vocabulary.
✅ Encourage your child to make their very own book!
Let them use the 22 adjectives and fun time expressions to write simple sentences. Once their book is finished, invite them to read it over and over—kids love reading a book they made, and it really boosts their confidence!
