The book uses leaves as consonants dropping into the position representing all the final consonant sounds used by early learners. 

Our first phonics book helps early learners master final consonant sounds through  CVC words. By focusing on these final sounds isolated from the vowel sound, they can develop a strong phonemic awareness before moving on to initial consonant sounds in CVC words, which will be introduced in the next book of the series.
