Making the Most of This Book

In Book 3, children will practice all three English be verbs – am, is, and are with people words –personal pronouns. Meet a little boy named Harry as he introduces his family members, friends, teacher, pets and toys as his friend. Your child will be able to introduce all of his/her friends like Harry.

Tips for Parents

✅ Ask your child how they could group people into two categories.

One simple way is by boys and girls. Explain that even if they don’t know someone’s name, they can still talk about that person using he for boys, she for girls, and it for things or animals.

Encourage your child to practice by thinking of people they know and saying he, she, or it for each one. This helps them learn personal pronouns in a natural, meaningful way.

✅ Talk about groups of people!

Ask your child: “What do we call a group that includes me? A group that includes you? Or a group that doesn’t include you or me?” Introduce the words we, you, and they. Tell your child that we always use are with these words.

Encourage your child to introduce all their friends, just like Harry!

Encourage your child to practice introducing all their friends, just like Harry does. This helps them use personal pronouns naturally and confidently.

“This is my mom. She is my friend. These are my books. They are my friends.”

Encourage your child to read the book they made again and again!

Ask your child to make their own book introducing their friends, just like Harry does. Then, encourage them to read their book repeatedly to build confidence and fluency.
